Pearl Izumi designs shoes for a rare breed of individuals called runners. Are runners an endangered species? Whether its track or trail runners, Pearl Izumi believes so. That's why its shoes aren't just made to look good but to go fast. The Japanese-based company all started when a father set out to provide his son the best gear for bicycle racing. The brand made its way stateside in the early 80s providing sponsorship dollars to bike teams. Nowadays, Pearl Izumi builds products for many high-endurance sports including cross-country skiing, triathlon, running, and, of course, cycling.
